Financial inclusion is critical to limit poverty and enable farmers to invest in sustainable practices. The ALDI SOUTH Group partnered with its supplier OFI (Olam Food Ingredients) on a four-year project (June 2021 – May 2025) to increase the income of Honduran coffee farmers in the regions of Comayagua and Santa Barbara. The living income gap for 1,000 coffee growers was reduced by improving their access to markets and increasing their yields and coffee quality, by providing training on soil health, pruning techniques, water use, equipment and agrochemical handbooks. By the end of the project, 54% of farmers were found to be above the living income benchmark — an increase of 19% since 2021. Over 450 farmers achieved Rainforest Alliance certification. The insights gained from this initiative will help us to refine measures in future programmes.

“The training has helped me keep my yields stable. Without this support, I would not have reached this level of productivity”.
